For Parity Locker, Parity’s women’s sports memorabilia marketplace, it all started with a visor. When the Parity Locker launched in the fall of 2023, one of the first big ticket items was a race worn visor and pair of gloves from NASCAR phenom Toni Breidinger. The item was listed for auction, and the Parity team went back to work. The bids started slowly, then steadily ticked up. The team Slack’s notifications started to ping frantically: the now legendary hot ticket item had bids for over $50,000.

Walking up the green, soft carpet at the 2016 Rio Olympics, I gazed out at a sea of faces, each one a witness to the culmination of my journey. The countless hours spent in the gym, the eleven training sessions a week, the methodical analysis of film and technique with Dean Kruse — all of it had led me to this moment. This is why we do what we do. My memory of my last attempt was remembering technical chaos in the back and was given the choice to choose my own number. A rare occasion at the highest level.

The Olympics: A Business Case for Gender Equity in Sports
Having a woman figure front & center in the brand identity of the Olympic Games is significant, but what’s especially important to note here is that a decision like this was most likely not taken lightly by the IOC. Knowing how big the business of the Olympic Games can be (during the last Olympiad, the IOC reported revenues of $7.6 billion USD), it would be surprising for the IOC to utilize branding that was not good for the organization’s bottom line. By going all-in on Marianne, the IOC made a very intentional move to center women in their marketing strategy.
